Global Warming

A lot of discussion has taken place on the subject of global warming. Recently, experts claimed that there is a 90% probability that global warming is human caused.

The image above shows the results of ice core sampled data provided by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. As you can see, this data shows that the earth has heated and cooled many times in very dramatic ways.

The periodicity of the global climate change suggests that forces well beyond human activity have been working on the globe. There are solid theories related to the variation in global orbit around the sun, the variation in the earth’s declination relative to the sun, and variation in the sun’s energy output itself that have lead to global warming.

The chart also acknowledges that CO2 levels are increasing since human activity has taken place and we should be concerned about this, but note that CO2 levels lag the global temperature, and that we are discussing levels in the hundreds of parts per million. There is not enough data to suggest that catastrophe is going to occur, or that human activity even has any role in global temperature at all. Scientific data showing the existence of a rise in temperature corresponding to the use of fossil fuels has been refuted. We should reduce carbon emissions, but we should do it with an intelligent approach rather than simply ordering the restriction on production, and burdening the USA heavily while allowing China and other developing countries a free ride.
